Sister Marie Maravola – Silver Jubilee The Ursuline Sisters will celebrate jubilee with Sister Marie Maravola, OSU, who has been an Ursuline for 25 years on Sunday October 18 with Mass at the Ursuline Motherhouse. Fr. John Keehner, Rector of St. Columba Cathedral will preside at the Eucharist. This date was chosen because it is close to the date of the Feast of St. Ursula, for whom the Ursuline Sisters are named. Traditionally the Feast of St. Ursula is celebrated on October 21. Sister Marie is the daughter of the late Margaret D’Egidio Maravola and Sam Maravola of Boardman. She entered the Ursulines from Sacred Heart Parish in 1983. She was received into the novitate in 1984 and professed first vows in 1986. Sister Marie graduated from Ursuline High School in Youngstown and Youngstown State University where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree. She has worked in Social Services in several health care facilities including O’Brien Nursing Home and Assumption Village Nursing Home. She has also served the Ursuline Sisters in Health Care Ministry and by coordinating personnel and facilities at the Ursuline Motherhouse. Currently she serves as in the Social Service Department at Park Vista Retirement Community. In addition, Sister Marie is a licensed massotherapist and serves on the Committee working to establish a Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Youngstown. Sister Nancy Dawson, OSU, General Superior of the Ursuline Sisters remarked: “We are delighted to be celebrating this Jubilee with Sister Marie. She is a vibrant member of our community which has been in the greater Mahoning Valley for 135 years. Each day the Ursulines meet the critical needs of the people of God here. Jubilee is a time for all the Ursulines, especially one celebrating an anniversary, to recommit ourselves ot a life of service, prayer, and community.”
