Thank You, Youngstown Foundation!

Many, many thanks to the Youngstown Foundation, which has awarded the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown’s Apartments for Senior Citizens of Limited Income Project a grant of $20,000.

Jan Strasfeld, [at left] executive director of the Foundation, presents to Sister Nancy Dawson, General Superior of the Ursuline Sisters, a ceremonial check at the foundation’s offices in downtown Youngstown today.

In May the Ursuline Sisters will begin construction in consonance with Universal Design principles on 12 barrier-free apartments for Senior Citizens of more moderate incomes in the west wing of their Motherhouse in Canfield, a visionary project that will cost approximately $1.2 million.

“The Youngstown Foundation makes the Mahoning Valley a better place through its faithful philanthropic endeavors on behalf of the poor,” says Sister Nancy. “We are honored that such a prestigious organization as the foundation recognizes the importance of our project to the lives of senior citizens in the greater Youngstown area, and we are very grateful to the foundation’s board members for their generosity and support.”
