Sister Lois Walter, OSU Sister Lois Walter, OSU, died on Wednesday, January 23. She was 82. She was born Evelyn Lucille Walter in Massillon on January 29, 1930, the daughter of Cletus and Margaret Bullach Walter. She attended St. Joseph and St. Mary Schools in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown on February 1, 1948 and professed final vows on August 30, 1953. Sister Lois earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Youngstown State University in 1956 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Marquette University in 1961. In her 62 years of active ministry, Sister Lois taught at St. Joan of Arc School in Canton, St. Patrick and St. Columba Schools in Youngstown, and St. Charles and St. Luke Schools in Boardman. She served as the Religion Coordinator and Director of Religious Education at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Canton from 1981-1995. Sister Lois was a Pastoral Minister at St. Edward Parish in Youngstown and for the past 15 years at Northside Medical Center. Since her retirement in 2012, she has continued to be active in ministry at the Motherhouse, most recently praying for the needs of the church and the world. Sister Lois leaves her sisters in community, a niece, Evelyn Heitger and a great-nephew, Jeff Heitger. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lois Kelley, of Massillon. Funeral services will be held at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Rd. in Canfield, on Friday, January 25. Friends may call from 3:30-4:45 pm followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 pm.
