Happy 98th Birthday, Sr. Miriam! Actuarial studies indicated that Catholic nuns live a long, productive, happy life. Our Sister Miriam Engles, OSU, is one who follows that pattern. She celebrates her 98th birthday on Christmas Eve and is the oldest member of the Ursuline Sisters in Youngstown. Sr. Miriam has been a member of the Ursulines since 1928 (81 years if you are trying to do the math). Her years of active ministry include teaching at St. Columba, St. Rose, Girard, St. Patrick as well as serving as principal at St. Patrick, St Rose and St. Luke. For more than 40 years Sr. Miriam tutored students for the Youngstown Vindicator Spelling Bee. Approximately 20 of her students won the annual event, 12 of them from St. Patrick School and 2 of whom finished in the top 10 in national competition. Blessings to you on your birthday.
