Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown AboutHistoryMissionLeadershipImpactIn 1874, Youngstown was a budding industrial community with many immigrants and few teachers. A priest at St. Columba Parish called upon his sibling, an Ursuline Sister of Cleveland, to come help, and our ministry in the Mahoning Valley was born.We are the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, Catholic nuns responding together to the most critical needs of God’s people in northeast Ohio. We live the gospel and adapt our ministries to meet the times. Our ministries include the founding of Ursuline High School (1905) and the former Ursuline Preschool & Kindergarten (1963), Beatitude House (1991), Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry (1993), the Ursuline Education & Wellness Center (1993), Young Adult Volunteer Ministry (2011), and Ursuline Sisters Senior Living (2013). Our nonprofit Ursuline Sisters Mission (2017) oversees operation of our ministry programs. We also minister in education, nursing home facilities, area parishes, and in prayer. Our ministries are rooted in the charism of our founder, St. Angela Merici. Our lives are enriched through prayer, community and service to others. Our mission is to bring our spirit, vision and presence to northeast Ohio for generations to come.If you are interested in joining us, we invite you to learn more about becoming an Ursuline Associate, a volunteer, or contributing financially.
